Frequently asked questions

Can I switch companies if I am already with one already?2019-04-04T20:51:37+00:00

You have the right to switch companies at any time. Whatever the reasoning, if you are dissatisfied or if you are experiencing further financial difficulties in managing your existing programme. However, there could be consequences in changing companies such as interest being re-added to your debt and lack of protection from lenders during the cross over period. It is always best to seek advice before making any decisions to switch. Speak to one of our advisors today by filling out our contact form and we will assess your current situation and advise you on the best course of action.

Will I have my lenders still contact me?2019-04-04T20:51:07+00:00

In most cases, were the debt solution has been accepted by your lenders, they will stop contacting you. However, nobody can guarantee that they will stop contacting you completely. Some debt solutions do obligate your lenders to stop contacting, as with an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA), Protected Trust Deed (PTD) and Debt Relief Order (DRO). However, if you stop fail the plan then your lenders are legally permitted to begin contacting you again.

How will it affect my credit rating?2019-04-04T20:50:42+00:00

All debt relief options will affect your credit rating, to what measure and for how long will depend on the option. Typically, your credit rating may be affected for up to 6 years. Depending on the option you decide on you may have difficulty obtaining credit in the future. In most cases where you are having financial problems it is very likely that your credit rating has already been negatively affected, particularly if you have missed payments. The very good news is that no matter what your credit rating is, you can always rebuild it over time and this process can begin as soon as your debt relief plan ends.

How long will it take for me to clear my debt?2019-04-04T20:49:59+00:00

The timescale of clearing your debt will depend on how much debt you owe, how much you can afford to pay back and the option you enter into. Our advisors will discuss all options available and let you know how long each will take to complete.

I have council tax arrears, are you able to help with that?2019-04-04T20:49:33+00:00

Will I lose my house or my car?2019-04-04T20:48:48+00:00

The majority of options available will allow you to keep your assets. However, there are some options, such as bankruptcy and sequestration, which may require you to give up some or all of your assets. We will help you choose the right option for you.

What option is best for me?2019-04-04T20:48:16+00:00

Everyone circumstances are different. As a result, the options differ from client to client. To determine what option is best, we go through an assessment of your financial circumstances to establish what your affordability is. We can then provide you with our recommendation. UK options are – self-help informal arrangements, Debt Management Plan, Consolidation loan, IVA, Bankruptcy, DRO & Administration Order. In Scotland options are – self-help informal arrangements, consolidation loan, Protected Trust Deed, Sequestration & Minimal Asset Process.

Why would my lenders write off my debt?2019-04-04T20:47:49+00:00

Your lenders may agree write off a large proportion of your debt as they know there is a very large percentage of people in the UK that simply try run away from their debts. In the example of an IVA, offering to write some off for you encourages you to pay something rather than nothing.
